【Background】 As this website's home page states "Iwate Prefecture's Camellia Coast," Ofunato is widely known in Japan for camellias which bloom in many different parts of town. Camellia flowers are used as the city's symbol and even the city mascot is the spirit of the camellia! Camellias have been growing here in Ofunato for quite sometime, with old records stating the pedals to be used in recipies, seeds extracted for oil to make natural cosmetics, in addition to leaves to make tea! 【Festival Details】 Location:　　The World's Camellia Museum, Goishi Address:　　280-1 Oohama, Massaki-cho, Ofunato-shi, Iwate-ken 022-0101 Time:　　9:00am - 5:00pm (Event related booths will start to close from 2:00pm) Date:　　Jan 28th - Mar 20th [Museum closed on 2/5(Mon), 2/19(Mon), 3/4(Sun)] *Most performances/workshops will be held on sundays. F.　SOUVENIR SHOP 【About The World's Camellia Museum, Goishi】 Although written "museum," it is in truth a botanical garden filled with 600 different types of camellia gathered from 13 different countries. Camellias' peak blooming season is from January to late March, but even outside of this peak season there are camellias which beautifully bloom. Even if you miss this period you can also experience arts & craft workshops and/or hands-on activities like extracting oil from camellia seeds!
