As the Town of Camellia, Ofunato city is renouned for its natural sighting of camellia flowers throughout the city in addition, devoted a museum (botanical garden) to showcase over 600 kinds of camellia flowers at The World’s Camellia Museum, Goishi.

Succeeding the blooming of camellia flowers and cherry blossoms, Ofunato City holds a 2-day festival event in Goishi Coast with street foods, musics, stage events, and more to celebrate and revitalize the city during Golden Week holiday!!

The entire city waits in anticipation for this festival as this marks the peak of summer with one of the largest firework shows in the area during this time! Multiple food stands and the local favorite's 'bon-odori-like' street dance performed by hundreds of local people fill the air with energy.

A total of 8 wards within Sakari-cho each pulls out their Lighted Festival Car re-mastered or re-built for this day. These festival cars are pulled within Sakari-cho to pray for good health, fortune, and energy to the city.

Although it may sound like they mashed up multiple specialties into one, the festival celebrates the start of the fishery season. People from the Kanto-region come visit to order and ship their own fresh batch of Pacific Saury pulled just for this day!

Before the cold wind blows in, the city holds the industry festival to celebrate autumn when harvests peak! With over 45+ stands featuring products in Ofunato, thousands of people gather to experience the last bit of outdoor weather!
